Who requires a visa?

Regardless of whether you are working, studying or touring in Egypt, you must purchase a tourist entry visa when you arrive in Egypt. The touristic entry visa entitles you to 30 days in the country, and does not allow you to work. If you stay longer than 30 days, you may extend your visa by visiting the office of the Ministry of the Interior in Cairo these are located in the Migration Office in Abasya, Location and working hours are provided here.

What documents will be required?

Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into Egypt.
●

Your passport should have at least one blank page to receive the entry stamp; the teller will exchange your currency and paste the visa into your passport in just a few minutes.

Average 7 days, up to max. 30 days; varies depending on nationality.

How long is the visa valid for?

●

Tourist visas are only valid for a single entry, that is to say, if you leave Egypt to visit another country and then return, you will have to purchase a new entry visa. This will however, reset the 30-day count.

Renewals

If you plan on staying in Egypt for an extended period of time you may renew this initial entry visa from the migration office in Abasya as a 6-month temporary residence visa (for touristic purposes). This type of tourist visa is also renewable.

Renewal for the student visa:

Valid passport.
●

Seven passport-size photos.
●

Application forms (available through the consulate).
●

Proof of financial means to support yourself while living in Egypt (or, if you will be working, a letter from your employer proving that you will be working there).
●

Proof of a return tickets or funds to purchase a return ticket to your country of origin.

Renewal for the work visa:

You will begin by obtaining the application form from the nearest Ministry of Manpower and Training Office (in Cairo this is located within the Migration Office in Abasya).

You will then need to assemble the following:

A valid passport (with valid Egyptian residence status)
●

7 passport-size photos
●

Two copies of your employer’s incorporation contract
●

Two copies of your Tax ID card (which you will likely need to obtain from another office – officials at the Ministry of Manpower should be able to direct you to the correct location if this is the case)
●

Two copies of your academic qualifications (such as university degrees and professional certifications; this can also include letters of reference from past employers)
●

A copy of the commercial register (from your employer)
●

Any licenses required for practicing your profession (have both the original and copies, just in case)
●

A memorandum from your employer explaining why it is necessary to hire a foreigner rather than a qualified Egyptian citizen.
●

Approval from the Authority related to your profession (e.g. Investment, Petroleum – you and your employer will have to obtain this through the office of that Authority)
●

A representative from your employer who will “sponsor” your work permit
●

Proof of test showing you are free of HIV/AIDs.
●

Approval from Egypt’s State Security Service showing that you are not a threat to national security or public safety (this can be obtained through a division at the Ministry of Manpower and Training office).
●

You will need to pay a registration fee of LE1,000 up to 1,500 EGP to complete the process.
